Change where a QR code points after it is printed
Repoint a QR code that is already on a menu, decal or business card. The printed code stays the same; only the link behind it changes.
Short answer
You can only change where a printed QR code points if it is a dynamic code: the pattern encodes a short link, and you choose where that link goes. Open the code in ZELF and edit the destination; every printed copy follows, and the scan history stays. A static code encodes the final address directly and has to be reprinted.
A static QR code locks in its destination the moment it is printed. Get the link wrong, change the menu, or end the campaign, and the whole print run is waste.
Every ZELF code is dynamic: the printed pattern points at a short ZELF link you decide the destination for. Change it from the dashboard and every code already out there follows, whether it is on a table talker, a window decal or a business card.
How to change a printed QR code's destination
- 1 Create the QR code and name it after where it will be printed, for example "Sea Point — table talkers".
- 2 Point it at the first destination and download the PNG or copy the short link.
- 3 Print the code on the menu, decal, packaging or card.
- 4 When the destination changes, open the code in ZELF and update it. The printed code keeps working, unchanged.
When to repoint a printed code
Menu that changes weekly
Print one code for the table talkers, then repoint it from the lunch to the dinner menu.
Campaign that ends
Point a printed poster code at the next offer instead of throwing the poster away.
Wrong link after print
Fix a typo in the destination without reprinting a single flyer.
Frequently asked questions
Do I need to reprint anything?
No. The printed code does not change. You only edit where it points inside ZELF.
How many times can I change it?
As often as you like. Repointing a code is part of managing it, and it does not cost extra credits.
Will old scan history be lost?
No. The code keeps its history, so you can see how scans changed before and after you repointed it.
